Our History
In the Autumn of 1950, three ladies who frequently played golf together-Mrs. Archie McLave of Leewood, Mrs Richard P. Limburg of Century, and Mrs. Russell Holmn of Innis Arden - conceived the idea that there should be a women’s golf organization limited to 100 low handicap players belonging to clubs in Fairfield, Westchester and Putman Counties
The trio invited 10 other good players to a meeting and the Women’s Tri-County Golf Association was born. Lawyer Allison Choate wrote the original by-laws. Invitations to join the organization were sent to eligible candidates. Aided by the favorable publicity written by Al Bamberger of the Macy newspaper chain, the response was enthusiastic.
Tri-County’s firs ttournament season began in June 1951. Its success led to the formation of two similar low-handicap organizations—the Cross County in Long Island and the Garden State in New Jersye
